I have discovered a book called A Longing for the Light, selected poems of Vicente Aleixandre, and have been enjoying it very much. He was a Spanish poet who lived from 1898-1984. Tonight I read, in a poem entitled, "Who I Write For:"
"Perhaps I write for people who don't read my poems. That woman who dashes down the street as if she had to open the doors for the sunrise." Does this seem counterintuitive? Of course it does. But it expresses my sentiments exactly. |
