In dihedral symmetry "the lines of reflection intersect at a central point of rotation." (David Wade) It may also be thought of as a combination of rotational and bilateral symmetry. Most of my square mandalas are dihedral.

When Emil Nolde was forbidden to paint by the Nazis in Germany during WWII he painted a series of watercolors that he called Unpainted Pictures. They are brilliant little images that he managed to keep hidden from his persecutors from 1938 – 1945 when the war ended. I have not been expressly forbidden to paint -- however our culture has a thousand ways to discourage art. I feel cautious about bringing any work out into the light.
